UPDATED: RVSD Unanimously Approves $5.5 mil on District Offices
With over 30% of District students failing to meet state standards for Math, and almost 25% falling below standards for English Language Arts, Why is the School District prioritizing the development of a San Anselmo Community Center over the needs of current District students?
In their October 15th meeting, the Ross Valley School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $5.5 million dollar project to renovate the Red Hill campus into new District offices and a community center for San Anselmo.
“When I was in Boy Scouts, all the meetings were at Corte Madera rec center,” trustee Ryan O’Neill said at Tuesday’s board meeting in San Anselmo. “Fairfax has a women’s building for the community. San Anselmo is missing that big piece.”
O’Neill and the other trustees voted 5-0 Tuesday to commit an initial $4 million of one-time facilities-designated state funds that the district already has on hand to the renovation plans as proposed by architects Doug Hilberman and Drew Weigl of Axia Architects in Santa Rosa. Approximately $1.5 million more would be needed later on — likely by July 2020, and tentatively in the form of a five-year, interest-only loan from Marin County."
A proposal for an updated Gymnasium at White Hill still sits on the table, and several of the elementary campuses have infrastructure needs for updated libraries, computer labs, and multi-purpose rooms that could be served by these funds.

Ross Valley School District posted its plan to spend about $4 million dollars on renovating the District offices.
This proposal comes amid parent concern about poor teacher-student ratios at Wade Thomas, and continued staff turnover at White Hill middle school.
